Health & safety

To ensure safe and enjoyable events the following health and safety rules must be followed at all times. If clarification is required during events please contact supervising staff or contact the rally secretary in advance of events.

  • Fire Risk
    • Caravan Spacing
      • A minimum of 4m roadway between rows of caravans.  To enable Fire Fighting Appliances to reach a caravan that is on fire, a minimum roadway should be maintained, of at least 4 metres. This roadway should be kept free of obstructions e.g. cars, gazeboes, A minimum of 6m between walls of adjoining caravans.
      • A minimum of a 3m "Firebreak" between units. Where a Towing vehicle is parked alongside it's caravan (as usual), a 3m space must be maintained between it, and the Awning of the adjoining caravan.  Windbreaks should not be used to "Bridge" the 3m Fire Break. The 3m Firebreak must be kept clear, eg Gazeboes, Windbreaks, or any sources of ignition e.g. BBQ's, Generators.
    • Fire Fighting Equipment
      • Fire fighting equipment is no longer provided by the centre.
    • Flammable Liquids
      • Flammable liquids must be stored away from sources of ignition. Don't keep Spirits or other flammable liquids behind your Gas Fire, or near other sources of ignition.
      • Do not fill or run a Generator within 3m of a BBQ, Ovens, Fridges, Water Heaters, Space Heaters or other sources of ignition.
    • LPG
      • Gas bottles should be stored and transported in the Gas Locker of your caravan. If gas bottles are carried in a motor vehicle, they should be secured so as to prevent their movement, in the event of an accident. An unsecured gas bottle, in the back of a vehicle, especially an estate, hatchback or 4x4, will turn into a very heavy and potentially explosive moving object.
      • If large bottles are in use, they must be secured so as to prevent them either falling over, or being pushed over. This to prevent liquid gas entering the caravan pipework.
  • Electrical Safety
      • Where Generators are used, they should be Earthed using a suitable Earthing Rod, and the Power Lead should be equipped with an RCD, at the Generator end. If Generators are used without these devices, there is a risk of Electrocution to anyone who touches the lead or Generator, in the presence of moisture.
  • e. coli
      • Risk of infection can be greatly reduced by avoiding contact with animals or their faeces. Children and the elderly are at greater risk. Always ensure hands are thoroughly washed after contact with any animal, and always before preparing or eating a meal or snack. This includes drinking, eating sweets, ice cream and smoking. Ensure that Water Point taps are cleaned before use.
      • Landowners will be asked to remove livestock, three weeks prior to a rally.
